Learning to love reading is an exciting journey, especially when you’re in Grade 2 at CTBC International School. At this age, students are beginning to explore a variety of books and develop their own reading preferences. One of the best ways to nurture this love for books is through engaging book reports, which help students connect with the stories they read and share their thoughts. The two Grade 2 Classes were able to explore and nurture their love of learning through sharing books such as “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and “Jane Goodall”. This love of learning will enable them to explore their interests later in life.
At CTBC, the process of doing book reports is not just about summarizing a story. It’s about diving into the characters, understanding their motivations, and exploring the lessons or themes behind the book. Grade 2 students are encouraged to express themselves creatively, whether through drawing pictures of their favorite scenes or discussing what they liked or didn’t like about the book.
Through these reports, students build a deeper understanding of the stories they read and improve their reading comprehension skills. They also develop confidence in their ability to articulate their thoughts. As they progress, students begin to appreciate reading as a way to explore new worlds, ideas, and perspectives.
The supportive environment at CTBC International School makes learning to love reading both fun and rewarding. Teachers provide gentle guidance, allowing students to feel excited about the books they choose, while helping them grow into thoughtful, confident readers. Ultimately, this experience fosters a lifelong love of reading that goes beyond the classroom.
